Provision of Temporary Accommodation in Beit Shemesh for Ukrainians Fleeing to Israel

Introduction

On 24 February 2022, Russia began a military invasion of Ukraine. The fighting in the country has created a humanitarian crisis of catastrophic proportions, with vast numbers of Ukrainian refugees reported to be fleeing the country. Israel, with a total population of just over 9.3 million, says it is focusing on the 40,000 Ukrainian Jews and 180,000 Ukrainians with Jewish family ties who might want to immigrate.

How Can We Help?

Many of these people who are fleeing the war zone will be in poverty, arriving with nothing. We offer free temporary accommodation, including meals, if necessary, for independent Ukrainian refugees, whether Jewish or not. We have four available double rooms that are fully furnished.

We will give priority to the elderly.

Our House in Beit Shemesh is strategically located away from the busy city life of Beit Shemesh but in walking distance of a large, beautiful park and shopping centre.

Our guests can enjoy quiet and peace in their own private room or commune with other guests in the shared living room. They also have the flexibility to walk to local shops or hop on a quick bus ride to Jerusalem.

While our guests are staying with us, it is our goal to make them feel safe, secure, and at home. We are offering more than a four-walled room, we are offering a temporary ‘home’ and safe place for them to adjust to their new country Israel.

Additional Assistance

The aliya process can be very overwhelming. We can help by being a halfway house whereby they have time to acclimatize and find a suitable apartment without the financial stress. Two of our staff are from Ukraine and therefore understand the language and culture. This should make it easier for the refugees to feel at home.

The guests will be permitted to stay with us for up to a month free of charge, and in that time, we will help them find long-term housing.

Our staff will be able to assist them with their process of absorption.

Once we have found suitable accommodation for them, we will be able to repeat the process and assist more Ukrainians in need.
